get the look: dressage

Zara Phillips riding High Kingdom during the Eventing dressage phase at the London 2012 Olympics

Is there a more elegant Olympic sport than dressage? Not only does it showcase beautiful horses trained and ridden at the highest level, but the riders are turned out with incredible style, from the tips of their top hats to the toes of their sleek black boots.

The riders competing in Eventing took to the arena for their dressage tests earlier this week (including Zara Phillips, above, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth), and the individual and team Dressage competition starts August 2. Equestrian style was also a major influence on the fall 2012 runways  (see: Gucci, Givenchy and Ralph Lauren), and with the collections making their way to store shelves, now is the perfect time to indulge in some haute horsey attire. Here's how to get the look:

1/ Givenchy Velvet-Trim Jacket
The key to any equestrian-inspired ensemble is finding the right jacket. This Givenchy beauty has a peplum back that echoes the tails of a classic dressage coat but in a much more modern, fashion forward way.

2/ Stella McCartney Pin-Embellished Cotton-Poplin Shirt
A crisp, classic white shirt is an equestrian essential. The pin embellishment on Stella McCartney's cotton-poplin button up lends the shirt a formal elegance perfect for dressage.

3/ J Brand Super Skinny Leather Pants
Pristine white breeches are a hallmark of dressage style. Update the look with these second skin white leather pants from J Brand. Bonus - they're on sale!
$448 (originally $896), Shopbop

4/ Gucci Victoria Equestrian Boot
Nothing says "I spend time in the stable" more than a pair of tall black boots. Add interest to the look with Gucci's bridle-inspired strap detail version.
$1,495, Neiman Marcus

5/ Portolano Driving Gloves
Gloves are a required accessory for dressage competitions, and Portolano's black leather driving gloves, with their curved wrist line, are an elegant option.

6/ Orizu Black Betty Top Hat
No dressage look is complete without a killer hat to finish it all off. Add some drama with Orizu's veiled topper.
£95 (approx. $153), Etsy
